I know they do it in India and in parts of Africa too, in addition to the muslim countries. I believe it was also done in some Polynesian cultures too. Heck for all I know it was common in a lot of cultures.Whatever the "reasoning" is, it all comes down to men controlling women by fear.It's sick for us to look at now, but our western culture is not too far removed from doing the same things to indians, blacks, and whoever else we thought were "below" us. His rather "avant-garde" views on empty religion and wacko fundamentalism, ironically, cost him his life. Anyway, he was addressing a group of his followers when he said the following, "...the time is coming [when] whoever kills you will think that he offers God a service..." Poignant words spoken some 2000 years ago, but no less relevant today. Sick, evil, and insane. Religious fundamentalism of the worst kind. Just goes to show you that insanity can, indeed, be taught. Just wire, or rewire the brain to think after any fashion which is irrational/immoral, and you can produce people who are functionally sane. Why, if it weren't for the "God Hates Queers" sandwich board sign and the dynamite strapped to the guy's back you'd think he was a perfectly normal person.Tragic... Damn… Sick, evil, and insane.
